“Maybe there isn’t such a thing as fate. Maybe it’s just the opportunities we’re given, and what we do with them. I’m beginning to think that maybe great, epic romances don’t just happen. We have to make them ourselves.”

There is love. There is so, so much love for this book. I loved Cinder. I liked Scarlet. But I adored this book. It was perfect, and the gang is all together and just all the intertwining storylines were just fantastic! We pick up pretty much where we left off in Scarlet, with Cinder training to become a warrior and accept her role as Princess Selene, Scarlet and Wolf recovering from the hybrid attack, and Cress stuck in a satellite trying to contact her Earthen friends. Cress is socially awkward, short, and generally just a ball of sunshine and I love her and she is my child and no one can tell me otherwise. Every scene with Thorne and Cress had me squealing and blushing just with their general adorable nature, and I loved how it was mostly a friendship, even though Cress had a crush on him from his pictures, until the final scene. And oh my word what a final scene it was. It was perfect and everything happened that needed to and I'm just completely and totally pumped for the new book. But back to this one. I think the only thing that bothered be was the whole Scarlet and Wolf debacle. When they separate, it seems like Wolf can't do anything, like his go button has been turned off, and it was just generally annoying because I didn't like their romance in the first place because it seemed so sudden and unrealistic. But when Scarlet left, I felt like a piece was missing from the gang and all the irony of how it all happened really got to me. Anyway. The writing of this book was well done and enthralling, but I like how original this book was, even though it's a retelling. I think Meyer does an excellent job of mixing everything up and maintaining a general grounding in the original story, but keeping it wildly inventive with her own world. It's one of the best parts of this series. Overall the plotline was engaging at almost all times except for some slow areas, the suspense was well executed, and the finale was perfect and I cannot wait for Winter. Definitely should read!
