“I don't love you. But I see the value of you, the incredible worth of you, more than anyone I've ever known.”

1 STAR

With such a great premise, I was really excited to read this book; it seemed to have good literary ideas with the foil of the twins and the interest in witchcraft and voodoo that inhabits the French Quarter of New Orleans. And then, I read the writing. I understand that these are teenagers. I understand that Tiernan wanted to truly get the reader inside the thoughts of Clio and Thais, but...I just couldn't get past all the 'likes' and the bad choices and the insta-love for the same guy. It was unrealistic in the extreme and overwhelming with the lack of true literary merit in the writing. I honestly preferred the third person excerpts far more than the main characters because I just couldn't deal with their droning, petty woes and voices. I read a good sixty pages before putting this omnibus down, which I'm sorry to say I won't be returning to unless someone changes my views of this book dramatically. Share your thoughts!
