“The things you think about when you're a hair's breath away from getting yourself killed.”

5 STARS

Wow. Just...WOW. Okay, this book basically took me by my toes, strung me upside down, and tossed me about until my head was about to explode from all the possibilities and the confusion and everything else about this book. I thought that the writing itself was beautiful, flowed well throughout the entire book, and despite a few little spots where it could have been cleaner was some of the best writing I've ever seen, let alone in a YA novel. For the general overview, this book is about a group of stranded teens in a freak blizzard trying to find safety after a vehicle crash destroyed their chances of using cars. But just as things start looking up for them, nothing is what it seems, and nightmares are coming to life from the fog and snow around them. **SPOILERS** Okay, let me just say that I personally love Emma. I thought that she was reserved, but ended up opening up by the end of the book, intelligent, and a good leader. The only thing I felt annoyed with was when she was continually confused when Lizzie was explaining her character-ness in Lizzie's bedroom and she just wasn't getting it. But I guess for the rest of the readers it's nice to have it explained thoroughly. But even now my brain's a mess from this book, in a good way, I promise. I think that the characters of this book were well thought out, each had depth, except for maybe Chad and Lily, but that's to be expected with their untimely passings. They each had their own stories to tell and had unique personalities, each of which I came to know and love through their shared perspective. Okay, now onto the 'blinks' Emma suffers from. GOOD GOD I WAS SO STRESSED WHEN SHE WENT BACK TO ENGLAND AT THE END LIKE WAS IT JUST ME OR WAS THAT SUPER TERRIFYING WITH KRAMER AND HER BANGING INTO THE MIRROR LIKE *breathes deeply* GOD WHAT AN ENDING. I thought that the 'blinks' were one of the most creative things I've ever seen, and then to find out that it's the whisper-man toying with her and basically switching places (?? still a bit confused on this, but I was reading quickly) made my brain go SPLAT against my skull. I could go on and on about all the WONDERFUL aspects of this book, and though I think it does have some flaws, they are minor and really don't take away from the book at all. I know some may disagree with me as seen in the other reviews, but I thought this was one of the most creative, most enthralling YA books I've read yet and I will be definitely reading more of this author in the future. So go read it for yourself!
